The Marina is a focal point of East Chicago’s North Harbor Revitalization Initiative, part of the Mayors “Bold Vision/Bright Future” program. This aggressive, multi-phase effort is dramatically improving East Chicago’s Harbor district by rebuilding neighborhoods and reconnecting the community. As a result, the Harbor district has become an attractive, lakefront area that is serving as a catalyst for economic development throughout the city.
The North Harbor Revitalization Initiative was designed as a series of developments, programs and policies creating comprehensive community revitalization in the North Harbor district. The area includes 80 residential and commercial blocks totaling more than 100 acres and is made up of 540 family units, commercial space, and infrastructure and institutional developments.
